Ok, here's my advice on your trip. Buy a sim card as soon as you get to Shanghai from one of those street corner vendors. Is your cell phone unlocked for other networks? Don't pay more than 55 yuan for the SIM card, it should have 50 yuan worth of talk time. Then text msg me the new number. =) You can add more money to it by going to a telecommunication building (everywhere in Shanghai).
For hotels, buy a 200 yuan VIP savings card at the first hotel you go, it will give you VIP prices for hotels around the country.
